Pharmacist advice medicines

Why do you need a prescription for items when purchasing online or by mail but not when you visit the pharmacy?

According to Poisons and Therapeutics Goods Regulation 2008, schedule 3 medications have to be supplied personally by pharmacists. Since this cannot happen with online, mail, fax, and telephone orders, Pharmacy Direct requires a valid prescription from an Australian registered doctor to satisfy that you have been given the opportunity to seek advice as to the use of this medication, in respect to the dosage, frequency of administration and general toxicity of the substance. Thank you
